Franklin overcomes heat and Bishop O'Dowd for 42-21 win; tickets still available for Grant-Poly

The Wildcats of Elk Grove overcame three early fumbles and conditions so hot that the stadium power went out to topple the Dragons of Oakland 42-21 today in Del Paso Heights in a Smackdown in Sactown contest.

Mark Dydasco had an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown for Franklin and Blake Owensby had a 41-yard touchdown pass to Trevon Lampley and a 4-yard run for Franklin, off to a 2-0 start for the second consecutive season.

Unlike last season, however, Franklin boasts of a young lineup, and coach Mike Johnson anticipated it could take several weeks of the season before his team comes of age.
Christian Fonbuena and Kiante Toney had touchdown runs of 5 and 31 yards in the fourth quarter to pull away from O'Dowd, coached by former NFL linebacker Hardy Nickerson. His son by the same name is a tight end/linebacker prospect headed to Cal.

Franklin (2-0) limited O'Dowd to 21 yards rushing. Franklin's defense was headed by defensive end Nathan Di Donato.

Tickets are still available for the Grant-Long Beach Poly game that kicks off here at 7:30. Or...follow updates on sacbee.com/preps or on Twitter: sb_joedavidson
