Whitney High School senior standout Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick was presented his honorary game jersey for the 2012 Under Armour All-America High School Football Game today at the Rocklin school.
Cope-Fitzpatrick is one of 90 players selected to compete in the fifth-annual all-star game, a nationally televised competition spotlighting the country's top high school seniors, Jan. 5 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Cope-Fitzpatrick is currently ranked No. 120 overall in the ESPNU Top 150 and No. 2 at tight end, and is verbally committed to USC.
He is Whitney's top receiver this season with 21 catches for 300 yards and two touchdowns. He has 19 tackles, a sack, two pass defenses and a blocked punt.
"This is the first time I'll be playing in prime-time," said the 6-foot-5, 235-pound Cope-Fitzpatrick. "I'm looking to make some big plays."
More pressing, however, for Cope-Fitzpatrick is to try to help Whitney (6-2, 3-0) finish strong.
The Wildcats play winless Cordova Friday at Whitney in a Senior Night game, then play at Antelope Nov. 4 in a game expected to decide the Capital Athletic League championship.
"It's sad that it's coming to an end," Cope-Fitzpatrick said of his high school career. "Hopefully we can make it really deep into the postseason."
