There are a couple of things that are certain about being a Casa Roble football fan.

It's unlikely you are going to be going home early. It's also unlikely that you will leave feeling disappointed.

The fifth-seeded Rams (9-2), with a prolific spread offense, are one of the area's most entertaining shows on turf.

Ranked sixth in the state in scoring at 45.8 points per game, the Capital Valley Conference champions exploded again Friday night in beating No. 12 seed Benicia 57-41 in the opening round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs in Orangevale.

Among the highlights:

• Quarterback Mitch Samson completed 12 of 21 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns.

• Wide receiver Frankie Patalano had seven catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for two scores.

• Wide receiver Tyler Young had two receptions for 116 yards and a touchdown and added 181 return yards, including a 94-yard kickoff return.

• Running back Kody Jones rushed for 180 yards and a touchdown.

The Rams surrendered some points, not surprising for a team that allows 33 points per game.

Benicia (7-4) scored 21 points in the second quarter. Casa Roble, of course, had 30.

The Panthers' Ryan Bohnet had four touchdown passes, three to Austin Carr, who also ran for a score.

Casa Roble senior linebacker Cameron Buell had 16 tackles, including three for losses, and junior lineman Max Corry added 10 tackles and two sacks.

The fifth-seeded Rams will play on Friday at 10-1 Los Banos, a 56-18 winner over Vanden last night.

• Do not attack other users; focus your comments on issues, not individuals.

• Do not copy and paste outside material into the comment box.

• Don't repeat the same comment over and over. We heard you the first time.

• Do not use the commenting system for advertising. That's spam and it isn't allowed.

• Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.
