Christian Brothers, area trio advance to CIF sate girls golf finals

Clare Sorensen and Nichole Cruz each shot 78s to lead Christian Brothers to a third place finish and state qualifying berth in today's CIF Northern California girls golf regional championship at the Stanford Golf Club.

Christian Brothers, the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters champion, shot a total of 418, finishing behind first place Mission San Jose (400) of Fremont and second place Amador Valley (414) of Pleasanton. All advance to the CIF state finals Nov. 15 at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach.

St. Francis, a four-time NorCal champion and runners-up in 2010, finished fourth (427) and did not qualify.

Oakmont's Maddy Gedeon and Granite Bay's Paige Lee each shot three-over 73s and Woodland's Sara Scarlett had a 74 to advance to the state finals as individuals.

Alameda's Carly Childs was the medalist with a 71.
