Encina beats Vacaville Christian for 3rd straight soccer title

Ramses Galvez' goal in the 27th minute led Encina past Sierra Delta League rival Vacaville Christian 1-0 in today's Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI boys soccer championship game at Cosumnes Oaks High School in Elk Grove.

It was Encina's third consecutive section boys soccer title.

The soccer team, once plagued with a revolving door of coaches before John Buchmiller and Glenda Claremon the program's reins in 2005, has now won three of the school's seven total section banners in all sports.

Encina (14-4-1) finished first in the Sierra Delta League and Vacaville Christian (14-4-2) placed second.

In reaching the final, Encina defeated Waterford 2-0 and Delhi 4-2 on penalty kicks.
