Jesuit, Davis advance to D-I semis; Encina back in section final

Perennial powers Jesuit and Davis have advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I boys soccer semifinals after quarterfinal wins today.

Jesuit defeated Armijo 4-1 and Davis downed Pleasant Grove 1-0.

Davis will play Thursday at Golden Valley of Merced, a 3-0 winner over Chavez.

Jesuit, the defending section champions, will play host to West of Tracy on Thursday. West defeated Turlock 2-1 today.

In other highlights today as reported to the Sac-Joaquin Section:

• Undefeated Capital Christian, seeking its first section title, defeated Hughson 6-0 in a D-V quarterfinal. The Cougars will play host to Summerville, a 2-0 winner over Riverbank, on Thursday.

• Capital Christian's Golden Empire League rival, West Campus, downed Hilmar 4-1. The Warriors will play Thursday at Linden, a 4-2 penalty-kick winner over Dixon, the third GEL team in the D-V field.

• Encina will get a shot at a third consecutive section title after beating visiting Delhi 4-2 on PKs, thanks to two saves by goalkeeper Fernando Barrera. The Bulldogs will play Sierra Delta League rival Vacaville Christian on Saturday for the title. Vacaville Christian beat Gustine 2-1.

• Sacramento Country Day will return to the D-VII championship game on Saturday after beating Elliot Christian 5-4. Millennium, which beat the Cavaliers 5-3 on PKs in last season's final, downed Faith Christian 2-0 in the other semifinal.
