With semifinals concluded today, there will be a lot of familiar faces in Saturday's Sac-Joaquin Section boys soccer championship matches at Cosumnes Oaks in Elk Grove and Lincoln of Stockton.
Six of the seven defending champions have made the finals again. Four runners-up last season also are back.
Here is a look at the matchups:
Division I - Jesuit vs. Davis, 6 p.m. at Cosumnes Oaks
The long-time rivals, who played to a 1-1 tie during the regular season, meet again after wins today. Jesuit downed West of Tracy 5-0 behind Kaba Alkebulan's two goals. Davis defeated Golden Valley 4-2 in Merced. Jesuit (24-1-4), winners of a section best nine championships and ranked No. 1 nationally in two polls to start the season, beat the Blue Devils 3-0 last season.
Division II - Granite Bay vs. Bella Vista, 4 p.m. at Cosumnes Oaks
Another rematch of last season's final, won by Granite Bay 4-0. Granite Bay beat McClatchy 4-0 and Bella Vista topped Woodcreek 2-1 in today's semis. Although both lost top California Development Academy players after the elite club program's ultimatum to choose high school or club midway through the season, both teams went on to win their respective league titles and reach the title game.
Division III - Natomas vs. Placer, 2 p.m. at Cosumnes Oaks
Although the Nighthawks are back to defend their title, Placer is making its first appearance in a boys soccer finale. Natomas defeated Rio Americano 2-1; Placer downed Antelope 1-0 today.
Division IV - Vista del Lago vs. East Union, noon at Lincoln of Stockton
Vista del Lago not only has a chance to repeat as D-IV champions, but the Eagles (17-0-1) can complete an undefeated season with a win over East Union. The Eagles beat Sierra 5-0 and East Union beat Central Valley 5-2 today.
Division V - Capital Christian vs. West Campus, noon at Cosumnes Oaks
The two Golden Empire League rivals will meet for the title. Capital Christian, runners-up to Dixon in last season's finale, defeated Summerville 3-1; West Campus downed Linden 3-1 in overtime.
Division VI - Encina vs. Vacaville Christian, 10 a.m. at Cosumnes Oaks
Encina tries to win a third consecutive section title, this time against their rivals from the Sierra Delta League. Encina beat Gustine 3-2 in last year's final
Division VII - Sacramento Country Day vs. Millennium of Tracy, 10 a.m. at Lincoln of Stockton
A rematch of last year's final that was won by Millennium 5-3 on penalty kicks after the two teams played to a 0-0 draw through regulation and overtime.
