Valley, Del Campo, Bella Vista among boys tournament winners

It was a good night on Saturday as several area teams won boys basketball tournament championships.

Here is a brief look at the highlights:

• No. 16 Valley (6-1) defeated Grace Davis of Modesto 71-62 to win the Frank Godinez title, led by tournament MVP Robert "Memphis" Perry's 25 points. Senior Arron Redd and sophomore Elijah Calloway also made all-tournament, but coach Mat Bradley credits senior point guard and captain Tercail Hadley for the Vikings' fast start. "He makes our motor run," Bradley said. Valley plays host to East Union of Manteca at 7 o'clock tonight.

• Matthew Hayes scored on a base-line runner in traffic with four seconds to play to lift No. 5 Pleasant Grove (4-0) over No. 6 Burbank 50-49 for the 5th annual Mark Macres tournament title at Monterey Trail on Saturday. The junior guard's winning basket came after Mitchell Love's free throw had put the Titans ahead 49-48 with 12.1 seconds. But Love missed the second free-throw attempt and tournament MVP Colfax Nordquist rebounded for Pleasant Grove. Pleasant Grove plays No. 15 Kennedy 4:30 p.m. today in the opening game of the St. Hope Elite Classic at Sacramento High School.

• No. 13 Del Campo (5-0) defeated Inderkum for the second time this season, this time 77-60 in the finals of the Folsom-Vista del Lago Classic at Folsom. The tournament highlight for the Cougars was their 63-56 semifinal win over then-No. 9 Center behind Davit Saghateylan's 18 points and 13 from Semir Cahtarevic. Chris Smith had 28 for Center, now No. 14. Del Campo plays at Mira Loma 7 p.m. tonight and 3:30 p.m. Thursday against Roseville in the Mesa Verde tournament.

• No. 4 Franklin (6-0) defeated Arcata 70-57 to win the Arcata Invitational championship for the third year in a row. Tournament MVP Theo Johnson had 24 points and Darin Johnson added 21 points for the Wildcats. The Wildcats play at No. 2 Sheldon 7 p.m. Wednesday.

• K.J. Logue scored 26 points and had nine rebounds and Cristian Salhani added 15 points and 12 rebounds in leading No. 10 Bella Vista (6-2) past No. 12 Del Oro 69-63 in the Del Oro Invitational championship game. Ahmad Smith had 12 points on Friday in the Broncos' 41-40 win over No. 17 Whitney. Bella Vista opens with El Dorado on Thursday in the Mesa Verde tournament.

• No. 7 Antelope (6-1) outscored Roseville 18-2 in the first quarter en route to a 71-36 win over the Tigers in the final of Antelope's own Titan Classic. Tournament MVP Caleb King of Antelope topped all scorers with 16 points. The Titans play Monterey 8 p.m. Thursday in the Carmel Invitational.

•- Junior Will Buell had 29 points in leading Colfax past Palma of Salinas 60-54 in Saturday's Breaker Classic in Pacific Grove. Colfax defeated Pacific Grove 58-28 on Friday as Luke Beninga led the way with 13 points. Colfax (4-2) plays 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sutter.
