Defending champ St. Francis at No. 16 in D-I girls power ratings

It seems a little shocking that defending Sac-Joaquin Section Division I champion St. Francis is sitting at No. 16 - the final playoff qualifying spot - in today's Sac-Joaquin Section D-I girls basketball power ratings.

Troubadour fans shouldn't worry.

St. Francis (14-12) should make the postseason since its last game is on on Friday at Delta River League cellar-dwelling Folsom (7-19), winless in league.

St. Francis' low rating is largely because of its 4-5 record in the Delta River, which includes top-ranked Pleasant Grove, No. 5 Oak Ridge and No. 8 Sheldon.

Also not reflected in the Troubadours' rating are four non-league wins, two against No. 4 Kennedy, another against Sacred Heart-Cathedral of San Francisco and the last on Saturday, an impressive 68-40 win over No. 3 Lincoln of Stockton.

St. Francis beat Lincoln in last season's D-I section championship game.

Because those nonleague games were played after Jan. 6, they don't count toward a team's power rating.

Today's power ratings are the last of three to be released by the section.

Playoff brackets will be announced on Sunday.
