James' 18 points helps lead top-seeded Pleasant Grove past Chavez in Sac-Joaquin Section Division I girls basketball opener

Dejza James led four Pleasant Grove players in double figures with 18 points as the top-seeded Eagles defeated No. 16 Chavez of Stockton 77-55 in tonight's Sac-Joaquin Section Division I girls basketball opener in Elk Grove.

Rachel Beebe added 16 points, Avonna Lee 13 and Marissa Wimbley 12 for the 20-8 Eagles. Kelsey Bumanglag led Chavez with 18 points and Renee Gentry added 17 for the Titans.

Chavez (16-12) beat Pitman of Turlock 51-44 in a play-in game on Monday.

DIVISION I
Kennedy 51, Napa 49 in Greenhaven - The No. 4 Cougars outscored the No. 13 Indians 15-12 in the final quarter to advance to the quarterfinals. Jessica Lauderdale topped Kennedy with 18 points; Madison Van Zandt led Napa with 17.

Sheldon 71, Beyer 51 at Sheldon - Brianna Burgos had 27 points to lead the No. 7 Huskies past the No. 10 Patriots from Modesto.

Oak Ridge 76, Grant 36 in El Dorado Hills - Jenna Klein had 17 points and Jacki Bateman 10 as 14 players scored for the No. 6 Trojans in the win over the No. 11 Pacers.

DIVISION II
El Camino 81, River Valley 46 at El Camino - Alexis Haffner led four players in double figures with 18 points as the No. 2 Eagles coasted past the No. 15 Falcons. Klarissa Gonzalez led River Valley with 17 points.

Florin 62, Kimball 33 at Florin - Daijah Joe-Smith had 20 points, Deja Conger 14 and Kynndi Ricardo 11 as the No. 4 Panthers defeated the No. 13 Jaguars from Tracy. Allison Schmidt led Kimball with 11 points.

Del Oro 55, Rio Americano 41 in Loomis - Brianna Ruiz had 19 points and Stephanie Geyer 13 to lead the No. 5 Golden Eagles past the No. 12 Raiders.

Grace Davis 77, Antelope 75 (OT) in Modesto - The No. 6 Spartans outscored the No. 11 Titans 10-8 in overtime to prevail. Ashley Hawkins and Michelle Okoroike each had 22 points for Antelope. Leslie Escudero topped Grace Davis with 23 points.

River City 57, Rocklin 38 in West Sacramento - Jordan Ligons, Marrssa Tyler and Katie King combined for 45 points as the No. 7 Raiders downed the No. 10 Thunder. Lydia Summers topped Rocklin with 14 points.

Inderkum 56, Del Campo 53 in Natomas - Sakara Brewer had 21 points and Ericka Magana 18 as the No. 8 Tigers defeated the No. 9 Cougars. Ash Monk led Del Campo with 20 points.

DIVISION III
Sacramento 73, Casa Roble 24 in Oak Park - Jasmine Ware, Jehiah Cook and Ayanna Edwards each scored 13 points as the No. 1 Dragons coasted past the No. 16 Rams.

Christian Brothers 65, Valley 39 in Oak Park - Ishana Burch had 16 points, Jaden Garrett 13 and Alicia Gonzalez 11 as the No. 2 Falcons defeated the No. 15 Vikings. Carmen Garcia topped Valley with 12 points.

Weston Ranch 58, El Dorado 51 in Placerville - No. 9 Weston Ranch outscored No. 8 El Dorado 26-13 in the final quarter to emerge victorious. Emoni Wilson had 18 points and Ajanae Brown 13 for Weston Ranch. Courtney Macklin had 20 and Jessica Heinrichs 13 for El Dorado.

Vanden 74, Oakmont 39 in Fairfield - The No. 4 Vikings broke to a 14-2 first-quarter lead and never looked back against the No. 13 Vikings. Emilee Gavia led Oakmont with 13 points.

DIVISION IV
Colfax 64, Venture Academy 34 in Colfax - Thirteen scored for the No. 2 Falcons in their easy win over the No. 15 Mustangs from Stockton.

West Campus 55, Linden 44 in Sacramento - Haley Shaner's 32 points lifted the No. 3 Warriors over the No. 14 Lions. Kaci Scatling topped Linden with 21 points.

Bear River 63, Hughson 31 in Lake of the Pines - Jen Meylor had 29 points and the No. 4 Bruins turned an eight point halftime lead into a 27-point third quarter lead by outscoring the No. 13 Huskies 24-5 in the third quarter. Addie Garza topped Hughson with 16 points.

DIVISION V
Sacramento Waldorf 52, Stone Ridge Christian 31 in Fair Oaks - Hazel Critchfield and Savannah Telford each scored 14 points to lead the No. 5 Waves past the No. 12 Knights from Merced.

DIVISION VI
Victory Christian 68, Valley Christian 39 in Carmichael - Molly Huffman led five Vikings in double figures with 14 points as No. 1 Victory Christian defeated the No. 8 Lions from Roseville.

Wilton Christian 61, Lodi Academy 33 in Wilton - Kendra Jeffcoat had 22 points and Kayla Brown 21 to lead the No. 2 Patriots past the No. 7 Titans.
