Folsom knocks defending D-I champ Davis from soccer playoffs

Another perennial power has been ousted from the girls soccer playoffs while another area team needed a late overtime goal to prevail on penalty kicks in today's Sac-Joaquin Section Division I quarterfinals.

Folsom knocked defending D-I section champion Davis from the postseason with a 2-0 win in Folsom. Alyssa Jara and McCall Madriago had goals for the Bulldogs.

With Franklin beating D-1 section runner-up St. Francis 2-1 last Thursday, it means a team other than Davis or St. Francis will win this year's D-I title for the first time since Beyer of Modesto in 2002.

Folsom will play St. Mary's of Stockton in Thursday's semifinals. St. Mary's beat Enochs 3-2 tonight.

Franklin, meanwhile, got its own scare today.

The host Wildcats had to score late in the second overtime to earn a draw with Vintage of Napa 2-2, then won on penalty kicks 5-4.

Franklin will play tonight's Tracy at Turlock winner in Thursday's semifinals.

In other highlights:

•: Alexa Heinzer, Lizzie Moulton and Sammy Carpenter scored goals as defending D-III section champion Rio Americano defeated Yuba City 3-0. The Raiders will play host to Rodriguez in Thursday's semifinals. The Fairfield school beat Colfax 3-2.

•: Bizzy Baldwin scored both goals in Bella Vista's 2-1 D-II win over Granite Bay. Bella Vista will play Woodcreek in Thursday's semifinals. Woodcreek beat Kennedy 3-1.

•: Alanna Greenhow, Demi Muses, Brandi Gutierrez and Morgan Kephart scored goals in Casa Roble's 4-0 D-II win over McClatchy. Casa Roble will play Del Oro on Thursday. Del Oro defeated Oakmont 4-0 tonight.

•: Jessica Syracuse had a hat trick in leading Bradshaw Christian to a 6-0 Division VI win over Delta.

Here are some rules of the road:

• Keep your comments civil. Don't insult one another or the subjects of our articles. If you think a comment violates our guidelines click the "report abuse" button to notify the moderators. Responding to the comment will only encourage bad behavior.

• Don't use profanities, vulgarities or hate speech. This is a general interest news site. Sometimes, there are children present. Don't say anything in a way you wouldn't want your own child to hear.

• Do not attack other users; focus your comments on issues, not individuals.

• Do not copy and paste outside material into the comment box.

• Don't repeat the same comment over and over. We heard you the first time.

• Do not use the commenting system for advertising. That's spam and it isn't allowed.

• Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.

You should also know that The Sacramento Bee does not screen comments before they are posted. You are more likely to see inappropriate comments before our staff does, so we ask that you click the "report abuse" button to submit those comments for moderator review. You also may notify us via email at feedback@sacbee.com. Note the headline on which the comment is made and tell us the profile name of the user who made the comment.
