Del Oro's Wheeler, Simmons reach state meet 300 hurdles finals

Del Oro's Casey Wheeler and Brie Simmons were heat winners and finals qualifiers in their respective 300 hurdles races tonight at the CIF State Track and Field Championships in Clovis.

Both will compete in Saturday's championships.

Wheeler won the boys 300 hurdles Heat Three in 37.53 seconds and had the third fastest time overall. Jarrett Gonzales of Southern Section Damien had the fastest time of 37.44.

Earlier today, Wheeler also qualified in the 110 high hurdles.

Simmons won girls 300 hurdles Heat No. 4 in 42.62 and had the fifth overall fastest time. Sac-Joaquin Section Masters champion Deja Pugh of Fairfield had the night's top time of 41.73.

Simmons was a non-qualifier earlier today in the 100 hurdles and the 100 meters.
