Dorner runs personal best; qualifies for state meet 400 final

Rosemont's Nia Dorner ran the second fastest qualifying time and a personal best of 54.81 seconds moments ago in the girls 400-meter dash trials at the CIF State Track and Field Championships in Clovis.

The performance moves the junior into Saturday's finals.

Dorner's time was the best in Heat Three.

California leader Renetia James of Serra of Gardena had the fastest time of 54.26 running in the Heat One.

Dorner is attempting to become the Sac-Joaquin Section's first girls state meet sprint champion (100 through 400 meters).

Del Campo's Joy Weems ran a non-qualifying 56.95 in Heat One and Monterey Trail's A'Jah Love a non-qualifying 57.27 in Heat Two.
