Rio Americano's Okoroike just misses reaching state track finals

Having made the two best jumps of his career in the last two meets, Rio Americano's Basil Okoroike couldn't come up with an equalizer in tonight's CIF State Track and Field Championship boys triple jump trials in Clovis.

Okoroike jumped a personal best 47 feet, 5 inches in winning the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II-III triple jump title May 16, then almost matched that with a 47-4.50 for second place at the May 24 Masters finals.

But at tonight's trials Okoroike's best of three jumps was 46-10.75. That placed him 10th, one spot from qualifying for Saturday's finals.

David Booker of Tulare Western landed the last qualifying spot with a best of 46-11.25.
