Three-time Sac-Joaquin Section Division I boys basketball champion Sheldon will play either Capital Christian or Sacred Heart Cathedral of San Francisco in today's 4:30 p.m. title game of the Valley-CRC Summer Challenge at Cosumnes River College.
Sheldon beat Pleasant Grove earlier today in a very competitive semifinal. Sacred Heart Cathedral is currently playing defending D-V section champion Capital Christian in the other semifinal.
Should Sacred Heart Cathedral win, it will lead to a rematch of last year's tourney final and pit two teams that reached this season's CIF state title games.
Sheldon lost 66-48 to Mater Dei of Santa Ana in the D-I state final at Power Balance Pavilion.
Sacred Heart Cathedral lost 71-67 to Alemany of Mission Hills in the D-III state final.
Capital Christian also is an intriguing team.
The Cougars had nine underclass players last season and are being led by new coach Devon Jones, who coached the JV team the past three seasons and has replaced Terry Battenberg.
A third place game will be played at 3:15 p.m. at CRC's main gym.
A consolation championship game will be played 3:15 p.m. at Monterey Trail High School.
