Area girls volleyball team places second at Junior Nationals

The Davis-based Five Starz Volleyball Club girls 15s placed second at the 33rd annual USA Volleyball Junior National Championships earlier this month in Columbus, Ohio.

The team, coached by former Sacramento State coach Debby Colberg and former Hornets player Breanne Menees, lost to Michio of Chicago 25-19, 25-10 in the 15s Open Division championship match.

En route to the finals, Five Starz defeated teams from five states, including three from Southern California.

Mikaela Nocetti of El Camino and Adlee and Torrey VanWinden of Vintage of Napa made the all-tournament team.

Other members of the team were Saint Francis' Anna Donald, Marissa Gollnick and Isabella Smith; Bella Vista's Kylie Green; Christian Brothers' Nastassja Bowman; El Camino's Devin Herenda; Rio Americano's Brooke Watson; West Campus' Meghan Nealon; and Vacaville's Skyler Takeda.

The team completed the regular club season as Northern California's No. 1 15-year old squad.
