Area NFL players to offer instruction at free football camp

Denver Broncos defensive back Syd'Quan Thompson will host a free non-contact instructional football camp for those entering grades 7 to 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at Burbank High School.

Although the camp is no cost, participating players must register and bring five canned food items.

Thompson, the former Grant and Cal standout, hopes to donate 1,000 cans of food to the River City Food Bank.

Also expected to participate are former Granite Bay stars Sammie Stroughter and Peyton Thompson and Christian Brothers grad Asa Jackson.

Stroughter (Oregon State) is a wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Jackson (Cal Poly SLO) a defensive back with the Baltimore Ravens and Thompson (San Jose State) a free-agent defensive back signee with the Atlanta Falcons.

Camp is limited to the first 200 who register. A barbecue will follow the camp at 1 p.m.

For more information or to register, go to Thompson's website at www.sydquan.com.
