Five active or retired area football coaches are among those listed in Cal-Hi Sports' updated career coaching wins segment of its popular state record book.
They are:
Max Miller (Costa Mesa, Rio Americano, Hiram Johnson and Cordova) 258. Retired.
Frank Negri (Foothill, Natomas) 248. Retired.
Dan Carmazzi (Jesuit) 230. Now an assistant coach at Christian Brothers.
Mike Alberghini (Grant) 221. Current.
Ed Lombardi (Lassen, Elk Grove, Clovis West, Sheldon) 211. Retired.
Another former area coach, Randy Blankenship, who started his career at Nevada Union in 1984 and is now on his seventh prep coaching stop at Aptos, has 216 wins.
Pleasant Grove coach Joe Cattolico's father, Butch Cattolico, has 256 wins, all at Los Gatos, where he still coaches.
New Bella Vista coach Tom Ingles has yet to win a football game in California, but has 248 wins during his 33 years coaching in Washington state.
In all, Cal-Hi lists 71 coaches as having 200 wins or more.
Cal-Hi's all-time leader is still-active De La Salle of Concord's Bob Ladouceur with 384 wins (against only 24 losses and three ties since 1979).
Cal-Hi founder and editor Mark Tennis also notes that Nevada Union's Dave Humphers begins the 2012 season with 190 career wins since replacing Blankenship in 1991.
