Grant's Oliver helps juniors upset seniors in NorCal showcase

Grant's Cameron Oliver was one of three players to score a team-high 19 points to lead the Class of 2014 to a 131-128 upset of the Class of 2013 in the fourth annual Nor Cal Clash Sunday at Contra Costa College in San Pablo.

The boys basketball showcase game pitted many of Northern California's top juniors against the best seniors.

National recruit Aaron Gordon of Archbishop Mitty of San Jose led the Class of 2013 with 41 points and 14 rebounds.

The 6-foot-8 Gordon, fresh off an MVP performance in the Boost Mobile Elite 24 in Southern California, was named player of the game.

Salesian of Richmond's Jabari Bird added 27 points and Sheldon's Darin Johnson 19 for the seniors. Sheldon's Dakarai Allen and D'Erryl Williams had six and two points, respectively, for the seniors.

The 6-7 Oliver is considered an emerging talent who as a sophomore last season played for a Pacers team that finished 12-15 and did not make the playoffs.

Oliver tied for Class of 2014 scoring honors with Elliott Smith of Freedom of Oakley and Murschid Randle of Central of Fresno.

Former Burbank player Malik Pope, considered the top Class of 2014 player in Northern California, did not score for the juniors.

The juniors trailed 74-64 at halftime and 105-91 after three quarters.
But the class of 2014 had a furious rally in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Class of 2013 40-23.

Jalen Canty of St. Patrick-St. Vincent of Vallejo had eight fourth-quarter points to lead the way for the juniors.

St. Joseph-Notre Dame's Temidayo Yussuf scored on a short floater with 1:55 to give the juniors their first lead of the game, 126-125, and they would never trail again.

The series is now tied at 2-2 all time.
