NCVC players enjoy high finishes in volleyball nationals

Led by USA Volleyball Youth National Team outside hitter David Parker of Whitney, six members of the Rocklin-based Northern California Volleyball Club 17 Black boys team helped their squad of stars win a silver medal at the recent USA High Performance Youth Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

The 10-man team, representing the Northern California Volleyball Association, lost to Puerto Rico 3-2 in the championship match.

In addition to Parker, Nevada Union's Bobby Curtis and Trevor Bryant; Vista del Lago's Griff Galvin; Bear River's Justin Beskeen and Del Oro's Mason Humes were the other NCVC members on the team.

Earlier this summer, the NCVC 18-1 Moxie, coached by Jeff Deter, finished third in the Girls 18 Open Division at the 33rd annual USA Volleyball Junior National Championships in Columbus, Ohio.

The team was led by all-tournament selections and recent high school graduates Michaela Leonard of Placer and Lianna Sybeldon of Ponderosa.

Leonard, a setter, and Sybeldon, a middle blocker, are now on scholarship at San Jose State and Washington, respectively.
