Sheldon trio and national recruit Malik Pope to play in showcase

Five of the area's top boys basketball players are scheduled to compete in the fourth annual NorCal Clash basketball showcase game 1:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at Contra Costa College in San Pablo.

Sheldon's Dakarai Allen, D'Erryl Williams and Darin Johnson will play for the Class of 2013 team while emerging national recruit Malik Pope joins 6-foot-8 Cameron Oliver of Grant on the Class of 2014 team.

The 6-3 Williams, The Bee Player of the Year last season, and 6-5 Allen, a Bee All-Metro first team selectee, helped Sheldon win the Sac-Joaquin Section and CIF Northern California Regional Division I championships. The 6-4 Johnson is a transfer who was All-Delta Valley Conference last season at Franklin.

The 6-7 Pope, who played last season at Burbank, reportedly has 12 college offers, including seven from the Pacific 12 while Oliver is just starting to catch recruiters' eyes.

The Class of 2013 squad is coached by Lechet Phillips of Deer Valley of Antioch and also features national recruits Jabari Bird of Salesian of Richmond and 6-8 Aaron Gordon of Archbishop Mitty of San Jose, the defending Division II state champions.

Mitty's Tim Kennedy will coach the 2014 Team.

Here are some rules of the road:

• Keep your comments civil. Don't insult one another or the subjects of our articles. If you think a comment violates our guidelines click the "report abuse" button to notify the moderators. Responding to the comment will only encourage bad behavior.

• Don't use profanities, vulgarities or hate speech. This is a general interest news site. Sometimes, there are children present. Don't say anything in a way you wouldn't want your own child to hear.

• Do not attack other users; focus your comments on issues, not individuals.

• Do not copy and paste outside material into the comment box.

• Don't repeat the same comment over and over. We heard you the first time.

• Do not use the commenting system for advertising. That's spam and it isn't allowed.

• Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.
