State-ranked No. 4 American River College beats rival Sac City in thriller

American River College, state-ranked No. 4, slugged out a 38-23 victory over rival Sacramento City on Friday night to break in refurbished Hughes Stadium, a staple venue in the region for 84 years and sparkling again with a $13 million facelift of new aneminities, paint and a field turf.

Ranked third in Northern California, ARC (2-0) was led by Devontae Booker, the sophomore tailback from Grant High School who chugged for 170 yards and had a 95-yard kickoff return to open the game. The Beavers won their 20th consecutive game dating back to the 2010 season.

Booker had three touchdown ruins, including a 41 yarder to seal it with 6:44 to go in the fourth quarter after a Zane Petty interception. Booker's 3-yard scoring run game Sac City a 32-23 lead with 9:07 to play.

Sac City (0-2) scored three points in the second half.
