Florin beats McClatchy in Monday night Metro thriller

Ben Walls rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns, passed for a third and intercepted a pass and Deon Guther picked off two passes and returned a kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown to lead Florin to a 28-26 Metro Conference football win over McClatchy on Monday night at Monterey Trail High School.

Florin (3-5, 3-2) forced the Lions (3-5, 3-2) into five turnovers, including fumble recoveries by Deon Johnson and Don Ross. Louis Shimoum also blocked a McClatchy field goal attempt.

The game had been rescheduled from Thursday night after a McClatchy JV football player went into a seizure earlier in the day and had to be hospitalized with what school officials thought might be meningitis.

Sacramento County health officials later ruled out that an infectious disease was the cause of the player's illness.
