Football is family affair for first-year Mira Loma coach

Mira Loma first-year coach Kirk Anderson is learning there is more to being a high school football coach than just trying to teach Xs and Os.

There are those $600 Costco runs, too, to stock the Matadors' snack bar for every home game at nearby El Camino High School.

Anderson's longtime girlfriend, Jessica Wendell, and her parents, Nick and Sandy, help keep the snacks and drinks flowing at the games. Jessica's brother, Kelly, works as one of Anderson's assistant coaches.

"There would be no way I would be able to do this without Jessica," said Anderson, a former high school and college quarterback. "It's not necessarily that she likes football so much. It's that she's there for me and will support me anyway she can. She knows I'm trying to do things the right way in building a program."
