Folsom may have 22 juniors and eight sophomores on its 49-man roster, but the Bulldogs are looking like a team determined to make a third straight run at a Sac-Joaquin Section Division II football title game appearance.
Folsom, which plays host tonight to Sheldon, beat Grant in 2010 and lost last year to Vacaville in the finals.
"We reload, we don't rebuild," Richardson said after beating Jesuit 56-35 on Saturday. "My staff on the lower levels is doing a great job of teaching the basics, so when they get up to us we just keep plugging kids in and keep moving on. That's what the great programs do."
Sophomore quarterback Jake Browning is No. 2 in the state in passing (2,731 yards, 31 touchdowns) and sophomore Bailey Laolagi is Folsom's No. 2 rusher (329 yards) and tackler (43). Juniors Troy Knox (49 catches, 609 yards), Harry Lipnosky and Eddie Flores (46 tackles) are team leaders respectively in receptions, rushing yards and tackles.
Last year's Folsom freshman team went undefeated and this year's JV squad is 6-0-1 after a 19-19 tie with likewise undefeated Jesuit on Saturday.
"Everyone expects Pleasant Grove to drop off when they lose a tailback and all of sudden Joe (Cattolico) has got another one. It's what the great programs do," says Richardson.
