A's prospect Max Stassi to hold home run benefit in Yuba City

Former Yuba City High baseball star Max Stassi will help raise funds for families in need during his fourth annual Homers for the Hungry 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Honkers' baseball diamond.

For every home run the Oakland A's prospect hits, he and other sponsors will donate money to area food banks and Hands of Hope, which provides resources and services for homeless families.

Stassi is scheduled to begin hitting at 12:30 p.m.

The event also includes bounce houses, access to the batting cage and speed guns, Wiffle ball, food and prizes.

During the previous three events, Stassi's 274 home runs have helped raise more than $35,000 for charity.

The two-time Bee Player of the Year was drafted by the A's in the fourth round in 2009.

A catcher, he batted .268 with 15 home runs and 45 RBIs in 84 games for the Class-A Stockton Ports last season.
