Former area boys basketball stars to play against Sac State

Four former area Bee All-Metro high school boys basketball standouts return to Sacramento tonight when Dominican University of San Rafael plays Sacramento State 7:05 at Hornet Gym.

Junior Connor Haysbert from Center is joined by freshmen Christopher Schwartz-Edmisten of Sacramento Waldorf, K.J. Logue of Bella Vista and Matt Hayes of Yuba City on the Penguins (2-2).

Through four games, Haysbert is averaging 12.5 points and six rebounds. The 6-foot-8 center had 20 points and seven rebounds in Dominican's 115-110 triple overtime win over San Francisco State Nov. 16.

Schwartz-Edmisten, who led California in scoring last season at 34.1 points per game, had 32 points in a 91-87 overtime loss to Sonoma State on Nov. 17. The 6-3 guard is averaging 12 points while playing 27 minutes a game as a starter.

The 6-2 Hayes is averaging 3.8 points and 15.5 minutes as a reserve while the 6-5 Logue has yet to see action for the NCAA Division II program.

Sacramento State (4-1) is off to its best start after five games since the 1999-2000 season.

The Hornets feature two former area players in senior 6-8 center Konner Veteto from Placer and 6-4 freshman guard Cody Demps from Pleasant Grove.
