Behind senior midfielder Niko Hansen's second hat trick in as many games, top-seeded Jesuit routed second-seeded Granite Bay 5-0 in today's Sac-Joaquin Section Division I boy soccer championship game at Cosumnes Oaks High School.
It was Jesuit's 10th D-I section title and third in the last four seasons.
The match drew a large crowd and was much anticipated, since Granite Bay had tied nationally ranked Jesuit 1-1 in the Capital Challenge on Sept. 7 at Capital Christian High School.
But Hansen flicked Anthony Ayala's corner kick into the goal from five yards out two minutes into the match; then Evan Barrett scored from 12 yards out less than six minutes later, ending any hopes for Granite Bay.
Hansen had a second goal late in the first half on a beautiful six-yard redirected back-heel tap. He scored his third goal midway in the second half, just a few minutes before being taken out to a large ovation from the Jesuit rooters.
Hansen also scored three goals in Jesuit's 4-0 semifinal win over Merced.
Jesuit (27-1-1) is ranked No. 3 nationally in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America fall rankings. Granite Bay finishes 20-4-1.
In the Division IV final played earlier, top-seeded Vista del Lago defeated Sierra Valley Conference rival Galt 1-0 on Will Dubay's goal off a cross from Matt Raymond late in the first half.
For Vista del Lago (14-2-2), it was their third consecutive D-IV section title.
During the regular season the Eagles split with Galt (17-4-1).
