Sac, Deer Valley combine for 193 points in Tip-Off Classic

Pleasant Grove and Antelope won and Sacramento High lost a wild one in Saturday's Nor Cal Tip-Off Classic boys basketball showcase at Newark Memorial High School in Newark.

In the nightcap of the seven-game, day-long event, Player of the Game Kendall Smith, a 6-foot-1 guard, had an event record 48 points and added seven rebounds and six assists in leading Deer Valley of Antioch to a 97-96 double-overtime win over Sacramento.

Kentucky-bound Marcus Lee, a 6-10 post, added 22 points, 25 rebounds and eight assists.

De'Von Boyd, who has signed with Chaminade, led the Dragons with 31 points. Aaron Cameron added 28 and James Hadnot 11 points and 14 rebounds.

The game was tied 78-78 in regulation and the two teams scored 13 points each in the first overtime.

Smith, who made 20 of 27 shots from the field and seven of 10 from the free throw line, made a 10-foot banker at the buzzer to send the game into a second overtime.

Malik Thames was named Player of the Game in leading Pleasant Grove past St. Patrick's-St. Vincent of Vallejo 74-63. Thames had 23 points, four assists and three rebounds. Matt Hayes and Matt Smrekar added 13 points apiece.

Gabe Bealer was the Player of the Game in Antelope's 57-42 win over McClymonds of Oakland. The 6-5 senior forward had 29 points and 11 rebounds.

Player of the Game: Sultan Siddiq of Newark Memorial - 22 points, 7 rebounds
