Dejza James had 23 points, Kim Schmelz 14 and Avonna Lee 13 to lead Pleasant Grove over Lincoln of Stockton 59-52 in tonight's opening round of the Trojan Shootout girls basketball tournament in El Dorado Hills.
In other Shootout games, Sydney Porter's 13 points led Nevada Union past El Dorado 48-20; Shelby Peters' 13 points helped Oak Ridge top Winters 54-16 (Baylee Opperman scored all 16 points for Winters); and Alexis Price had a team-high 19 points in El Camino' 55-44 win over West Campus. Haley Shaner scored 30 points for West Campus.
In other girls highlights:
Ashleigh Vandenbrink's 14 points led Davis to a 41-39 win over River Valley in its own Dorothy Speck Tournament.
Mia Maglinte's 21 points led Del Oro to a 76-36 win over Bella Vista in the Oakmont Rotary Tournament. In other games, Oakmont beat Mesa Verde 78-39 and Roseville topped Folsom 44-40.
Alyna Kanae's 19 points lifted Sheldon over Rosemont 55-44 in the St. Hope Classic at Sacramento High.
Tyler Ellis' 19 points helped Antelope to beat Will C. Wood of Vacaville in the Claude Brock Memorial tourney at Center High School. Hughson beat Center 56-52 in overtime and Grant topped Capital Christian 53-36 in other games.
Aleea Reese had a team-high 16 points as McClatchy beat Laguna Creek 60-21 in the River City Tournament.
