Granite Bay's Ernie Cooper named state's top football coach

Cal-Hi Sports has selected Granite Bay's Ernie Cooper as its 2012 California State Football Coach of the Year.

Cooper is a back-to-back Bee Coach of the Year recipient who led the Grizzlies to two consecutive Sac-Joaquin Section Division I titles as well as CIF Northern California Regional and State Bowl championships this season.

He is just the third football coach from the Sacramento area to be placed on the all-time state list of honorees that dates back to 1896. Cooper joins Cordova's Ron Lancaster in 1978 and Grant's Mike Alberghini in 2008.

Cooper was named Cal-Hi's Medium Schools State Coach of the Year in 1999.
