Sac High, Pleasant Grove win St. Hope tourney openers

Freshman Devin Young had 19 points, five rebounds and two blocks and seniors James Hadnot and Aaron Cameron combined for 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 4 Sacramento to a 68-45 win over Ponderosa in tonight's opening round of the 16-team, five-day St. Hope Elite Classic boys basketball tournament at Sacramento High School.

The win moves Sacramento into Thursday's 8:30 p.m. winner's bracket game against No. 2 Pleasant Grove, which beat Foothill of Sacramento 68-57.

In other first-round games:

• Colin Uda's long three-point attempt at the buzzer rimmed out as Chico held off Kennedy 61-59. Matt Nakatomi had 16 points, To'A Kolokihakaufisi 13 points and Cole Taira and Uda 10 each for the No. 19 Cougars.

• Despite 17 points by De'Sean Parsons, No,. 7 Grant fell 61-47 to Eisenhower of Rialto.

Here is the schedule for today's first-round games, which includes The Los Angeles Times' Top 25 teams, No. 9 West Ranch of Santa Clarita, No. 10 Chaminade of West Hills and No. 11 Inglewood:

4 p.m.: Inglewood vs. Fremont-Oakland
5:30 p.m.: West Ranch vs. Cleveland-Reseda
Dorsey-Los Angeles vs. Oakland
8:30 p.m.: Chaminade vs. Foothill-Palo Cedro

Tickets: Adults, $8; students with ID and seniors, $5; children 6-10, $2.
