Contrary to some panicked belief, tickets are indeed still available for tonight's Folsom-De La Salle high school football showdown otherwise known as the Northern California Regional Open.
Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at Sacramento State at Hornet Stadium. The stadium box office opens at 3 p.m. and will have thousands of tickets on sale.
Folsom sold out its allotment of tickets issued on campus, but that is not to be confused with the game being sold out, said CIF Associate Executive Director Ron Nocetti.
The CIF is urging fans to purchase tickets at a reasonable hour to best avoid long lines.
Folsom is 14-0, state-ranked No. 3 by Cal-Hi Sports and coming off a Sac-Joaquin Section Division II championship at rain and wind-whipped Sac State, beating Elk Grove. De La Salle is 13-0, state-ranked No. 1 and 235-0-2 against NorCal foes since 1991.
The Spartans of Concord are coming off a rain-soaked 52-7 rout of Logan of Union City to win their ongoing record 21st consecutive North Coast Section D-I title and 28th in 31 seasons.
This game tonight is the most significant prep event in area history because of the stakes and because De La Salle is involved and because Folsom has surged as a powerhouse program in recent seasons, including winning the CIF State D-II Bowl in 2010.
