Boys basketball Top 20: Kennedy upsets another Metro foe

Trailing by four points entering the final quarter, No. 19 Kennedy rallied to beat No. 10 Burbank 69-66 tonight to post their second consecutive Metro Conference boys basketball triumph over a highly ranked foe in Greenhaven.

Matt Nakatomi had 14 points, To'A Kolokihakaufisi 13 and Joey Healow and Devon Edwards 12 each as Kennedy (12-7, 7-0) remained unbeaten in league. On Friday, the Cougars beat No. 5 Sac High 66-59, also at home.

For Burbank (13-7, 5-2), which falls into third place, David Straughter had 21 points and Clifford Lyles 17.

NO. 3 CAPITAL CHRISTIAN 78, WEST CAMPUS 47 - Nifae Lealao had 20 points, D.J. Wilson 13 points and Uchenna Iroegbu and Tyler Jennings 12 apiece as the Cougars (18-2, 5-0) coasted past the Warriors (10-12, 2-3) in a Golden Empire League game at Capital Christian High School. The win came a day after Capital Christian defeated Central of Fresno 60-36 in the Martin Luther King showcase at the College of Sequoias in Visalia.

NO. 5 SACRAMENTO 61, MCCLATCHY 41 - Freshman Devin Young had 15 points, nine rebounds and three steals and senior Simi Shelton added 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists to lead the Dragons (14-6, 6-1) over the Lions (8-12, 2-5) in a Metro Conference game at McClatchy.

NO. 7 ROCKLIN 95, ROSEVILLE 83 in overtime - Devin Moss led five members of the Thunder in double figures with 32 points as they outscored the Tigers 19-7 in overtime of the Sierra Foothill League contest in Rocklin. Spencer Gregg added 15 points, Hayden Cook 12, Cole Bridge 11 and Max O'Rourke 10 for the Thunder (15-6, 3-1). Daniel Rios led Roseville (16-5, 1-3) with 24 points.

NO. 8 GRANITE BAY 65, WOODCREEK 49 - Jacob King had 20 points and Kendrick Jackson 14 as the Grizzlies (15-6, 4-0) downed the Timberwolves and remain unbeaten in SFL play. Noah Blackwell had 14 points and Nick Howe 13 for Woodcreek (10-11, 1-3).

NO. 15 DEL ORO 53, NEVADA UNION 43 - Collin Mitchell's 13 points helped lift the Golden Eagles (14-7, 2-2) over the Miners in a SFL game in Loomis. Lucas Vojak had 15 points for Nevada Union (8-13, 1-3).
