Boys basketball Top 20: Sheldon, Sac, Eagles easy victors

Freshmen Devin Young, Christian Terrell, Jermaine Henderson, Andrew Williams and Josh Gonzalez combined for 28 points, 20 rebounds, nine assists and seven steals in helping No. 2 Sacramento defeat Valley 79-22 in a Metro Conference boys basketball game tonight in Oak Park.

Young and senior Joseph Barnes both had 12 points and senior Simi Shelton added 11 points and nine rebounds for the Dragons (13-4, 5-0). Valley falls to 9-9, 2-3 in league.

In other games involving Top 20 boys teams reported to The Bee:

NO. 1 SHELDON 68, PONDEROSA 35 - Antonio Lewis and Darin Johnson each scored 17 points and Dakarai Allen added 11 as the Huskies (13-4, 3-0) defeated the Bruins (7-12, 0-3) in a Delta River League game in Shingle Springs. Lewis made eight of nine shots and had five rebounds and five steals. Allen had seven assists and five rebounds.

NO. 3 PLEASANT GROVE 57, FOLSOM 27 - Cole Nordquist led 10 Eagles (16-3, 3-0) in the scoring column with 14 points in the Delta River League win over the host Bulldogs (9-11, 0-3).

NO, 5 ANTELOPE 77, EL CAMINO 52 -- Gabe Bealer had 19 points, Rashard Thornhill 11, and Isiah Quintero 10 as the Titans (12-6, 2-0) defeated the Eagles (11-7, 1-1) in a Capital Athletic League game in Antelope.

NO. 11 BURBANK 86, ROSEMONT 52 - Clifford Lyles had 22 points, David Straughter 20 and Jalen Coates 19 as the Titans (12-6, 4-1) coasted to a Metro Conference win over the Wolverines (3-15, 0-5) in South Sacramento. Nate Medina had 19 points for Rosemont.

LAGUNA CREEK 86, NO. 13 DAVIS 85 - Andre Lewis had 33 points, Ladarius Nguyen 14, Brionne Mays 12 and Malik Pope 10 as the Cardinals (10-10, 1-2) held off the Blue Devils (12-7, 2-1) in a Delta Valley Conference game in Elk Grove. Hayden Russell and Brandon Strong had 15 points each for Davis.

NO. 14 GRANT 54, FRANKLIN 42 - De'Sean Parsons tallied 23 points to lead the Pacers (13-6, 2-1) past the Wildcats (9-10, 2-1) in the Delta Valley Conference game in Elk Grove. Benson Osayande led Franklin with 13 points. Davis, Elk Grove, Grant and Franklin are now in a four-way tie for first.

NO. 16 OAK RIDGE 51, NO. 17 JESUIT 37 - Josh Simms had 17 points, Bryan Baer 13 and freshman Matt Battaglia eight as the Trojans (12-8, 2-1) topped the Marauders (10-10, 1-2) in a Delta River League game in Carmichael. Lake Lutes led Jesuit with 10 points.

NO. 19 CORDOVA 65, RIO AMERICANO 63 - The Lancers (12-6, 2-0) took a 14-point lead into the fourth quarter then held off the Raiders (8-11, 0-2) in the Capital Athletic League contest in Rancho Cordova. Jordan Roberson had 19 points and Troy Owens 15 for Cordova. Kyler Joaquin led Rio Americano with 26 points.
