Boys Top 20: Top-ranked Sheldon beats No. 2 Pleasant Grove; No. 13 Colfax and No. 16 Granite Bay win league championships

Dakarai Allen scored 27 points and Darin Johnson had 21 of his 23 in the second half, and the top-ranked Sheldon Huskies iced it with free throw shooting down the stretch to hold off No. 2 Pleasant Grove 84-77 to win the Delta River League boys basketball championship outright tonight.

Sheldon (21-5, 10-0) made nine three points and hit 23 of 31 free throws to beat their rivals from the Elk Grove Unified School District for the second time. Sheldon won 85-79 on Jan. 25.

Cole Nordquist scored 31 points and had 12 rebounds for Pleasant Grove (21-5, 9-1), which expects a rematch in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs that start next week for all programs (outbracket games will be played Friday).

Ryan Manning had 13 for Sheldon, which seeks a section championship-record four-peat in D-I. Malik Thames had 21 for Pleasant Grove, which has lost only to Sacramento and Sheldon locally.

NO. 3 SACRAMENTO 95, MCCLATCHY 49 - De'Von Boyd had 18 points on six of eight shooting, Devin Young 15 points and three blocks and James Hadnot 14 points and five rebounds as the Dragons (21-6, 13-1) coasted past the Lions (10-17, 4-10) in the Metro Conference finale in Oak Park.

NO. 4 ANTELOPE 68, RIO AMERICANO 57 - Gabe Bealer had 21 points, Rashard Thornhill 13 and Isaiah Ellis 12 as the Titans (21-6, 10-0) topped the host Raiders (14-13, 6-4). Zach Suarez led Rio Americano with 15 points.

NO. 5 BELLA VISTA 77, CHRISTIAN BROTHERS 46 - Tyler Berkness had 26 points and Andrew Ciszewski 15 as the Broncos (22-5, 10-0) beat the Falcons (13-14, 4-6) in Fair Oaks to finish unbeaten in the Capital Valley Conference.

NO. 6 CASA ROBLE 75, NO. 7 DEL CAMPO 69 - Eric Stuteville had 27 points and brother Mason Stuteville added 21 to lead the Rams (21-6, 8-2) over the Cougars (19-8, 6-4) in Fair Oaks and capture second place in the CVC. Semir Cahtarevic led Del Campo with 24 points and Vasilije Saraba added 19.

NO. 9 BURBANK 62, No. 10 KENNEDY 59 - Jalen Coates 18 points and 13 each by Clifford Lyles and David Straughter enabled the Titans (19-8, 11-3) to hold off visiting Cougars (16-10, 11-3) in the Metro Conference game. Both finished tied for second place behind Sac High.

NO. 12 COSUMNES OAKS 69, RIVER CITY 61 - Alex Van Dyke and L.J. Reed each had 19 points to lead the Wolfpack (21-6, 12-0) over the Raiders (17-9, 9-3) in a Sierra Valley Conference game in West Sacramento. Jose Chacon had 23 for River City, which finishes tied for second with Liberty Ranch.

NO. 13 COLFAX 51, No. 15 LINCOLN 46 - Will Buell's 19 points led the way as the Falcons (22-5, 8-2) beat the Fighting Zebras (20-7, 7-3) in Colfax to secure the Pioneer Valley League title. Marcus Salgado led Lincoln with 15 points.

FOOTHILL 56, NO. 14 PLACER 34 - The host Mustangs (13-14, 6-4) outscored the Hillmen 39-15 in the second half to avenge a first-round 59-51 loss in Auburn and to tie Placer (19-8, 6-4) for third place in the PVL. Doug James led Foothill with 14 points. Isaiah Pineiro had 14 for Placer.

NO. 16 GRANITE BAY 73, No. 17 ROCKLIN 60 - Sherron Bradford had 16 points and Daniel Romero 15 as the Grizzlies (19-8, 8-2) topped the Thunder (18-9, 6-4) in Rocklin to win the Sierra Foothill League title outright. Devin Moss led Rocklin with 21 points. Rocklin finishes in a second place tie with Del Oro.

NEVADA UNION 58, No. 18 ROSEVILLE 56 - Jason Mickel had 26 points to lead the Miners (9-18, 2-8) to the upset of the Tigers (20-7, 5-5) in a SFL game in Grass Valley. Roman Tyukayev had 19 points for Roseville.

NO. 19 DEL ORO 56, WOODCREEK 48 - Collin Mitchell had 16 points, Conner Drake 12 and Aaron Freeman and Keenan Finney 10 apiece as the Golden Eagles (18-9, 6-4) topped the Timberwolves (12-15, 3-7) in Loomis.
