CIF honors Rio Linda's Morris as a Model Coach recipient

Rio Linda High School football coach Michael Morris has been named a CIF State Model Coach Award recipient.

Morris, a world history teacher, has coached football at Rio Linda since 1991 and also is athletic director and an assistant track and field coach.

Morris has coached a number of successful football teams at Rio Linda, including the 2004 Knights that won the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III championship.

But Morris is being honored by the CIF less for wins and more for his work as a role model and leader.

"He wants his players to be responsible citizens, who contribute to a positive school culture as well as to society overall," said the CIF in a press release announcing the 14 award recipients from across the state. "He educates his student-athletes that you must treat people with fairness even when life is unfair to you."

Morris earlier was named a Sac-Joaquin Section Model Coach Award recipient.
