D-III girls state final: Alemany holds of Sacred Heart Cathedral

Leslie Lopez-Wood had 16 points and Hanna Johnson 12 points and 11 rebounds as Bishop Alemany of Mission Hills held of Sacred Heart Cathedral of San Francisco 46-40 in the CIF State Division III girls basketball championship game today at Sleep Train Arena.

Genessa Bedoya added eight points and three rebounds and Adaora Obi three points and eight rebounds for the Warriors (32-5). Ashanti Coleman had 14 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks for the Fighting Irish (25-7).

It was Bishop Alemany's first state championship in two appearances. Alemany lost 67-54 to Sacred Heart Cathedral in the 1998 state final.

Bishop Alemany was cheered on by a contigent of 600 rooters who boarded buses at midnight and made the trip to Sacramento.
