Enochs beats Woodcreek on interference call in D-I softball

Enochs of Modesto eliminated Woodcreek 1-0 on an interference call in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I softball playoffs this morning at the Sacramento Softball Complex.

Enochs sophomore Jordan Barber was tagged out by Woodcreek catcher Frankie Orlando at home plate in the bottom of the sixth inning. But the umpire ruled that third baseman Christal Vierra interfered with Barber before she reached home, and Enochs was awarded the run.

Tournament director Don Barney said the play was dead once Vierra would not allow ith Barber to get up right away after sliding in third base, nullifying the tag out at home.

Woodcreek was the defending D-II section champions but, as a member of the Sierra Foothill League, the Timberwolves were bumped into D-I this season.

Enochs now moves into the double-elimination portion of the tournament and will play unbeaten Vintage of Napa at 2 p.m.
