Granite Bay, Whitney to host NorCal boys volleyball playoffs

Granite Bay and Whitney will play host to quaterfinal matches Tuesday in the first CIF Northern California Regionals boys volleyball playoffs.

Sac-Joaquin Section champion and No. 4 seed Granite Bay (22-11) will play No. 5 Amador Valley of Pleasanton (27-8), the North Coast Section runners-up, at 7 p.m. in the Division I playoffs.

Section champion and No. 2 seed Whitney (30-3) will play No. 7 Washington of Fremont (17-18), the NCS runners-up, at 7 p.m. in the D-II playoffs.

Sac-Joaquin Section D-I runner-up and No. 7 Nevada Union (19-7) plays at NCS champion and No. 2 Deer Valley of Antioch (40-1). D-II section runner-up and No. 6 Vista del Lago (24-10) plays against Central Coast Section champion and No. 6 Mt. Madonna (30-8) in Watsonville.

Semifinals will be played on Thursday at home sites, with the finals on Saturday at Dublin High School in Dublin.

Granite Bay won its fourth D-I section title in the five years the section has sanctioned the sport in beating Nevada Union 3-1 on Thursday at Monterey Trail High School.

Whitney beat Vista del Lago in D-II for its first boys section volleyball title. Vista del Lago had won the previous two.
