In El Dorado Hills today, No. 7 Pleasant Grove scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to defeat No. 6 Oak Ridge 3-1 and secure at least a tie for the Delta River League softball title.
Meanwhile in East Sacramento, two-time defending Sac-Joaquin Section Division I champion and No. 9 Sheldon (13-11, 6-3) secured a DRL playoff berth by rallying for five runs in the seventh inning to top No. 8 St. Francis 7-5.
Sheldon's Anessa Kaylor had a two-run home run, Sara Fukashima a two-run double and Erika Lane and RBI single.
At Oak Ridge, the Trojans (18-8, 5-4) had tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth on Kelly Zito's two-out base hit after Lauren Bertoy had singled, stole second and moved up to third on the same play because of an Eagles' error.
But Oak Ridge starter Alyssa Burns struggled with her control in the seventh.
Burns walked three batters, including Katie Antigua with the bases loaded for the go ahead run.
Pleasant Grove (17-9, 7-2) added an insurance run on shortstop Bertoy's fielding error.
The Eagles can claim the league title outright with a win Tuesday at home over struggling Folsom (1-24, 0-9).
Oak Ridge entered the week in a three-way tie for first with Pleasant Grove and St. Francis before also losing 4-3 Tuesday to No. 16 Ponderosa.
Now the Trojans face a do-or-die game with visiting St. Francis Tuesday for the league's final playoff berth.
Sheldon finishes the regular season Tuesday at defending league champion Ponderosa (13-10-1, 4-5), which despite a 5-2 win today over Folsom, has no chance of making the postseason.
