Dorner wins state 400 to become area's first girls sprint champ

Cordova's Nia Dorner made area sprint history tonight by winning the girls 400 meters in a lifetime best 53 seconds at the 95th CIF State Track and Field championships at Veteran's Memorial Stadium in Clovis.

Dorner becomes the first Sac-Joaquin Section girls athlete to win a state sprint title.

Dorner's 53.00 is the second best time in the United States this season and breaks her day-old personal best of 53.12 set in Friday's preliminaries.

Serra of Gardena's Chimere Ezumah, the girls 400 state champion as a freshman in 2010, led for most of the race. But Dorner overtook her on the fnal turn and pulled away on the straightaway with a strong kick. Eumah finished second in 54.15
