Meza's hit delivers North Optimist 10-9 win over South

MVP Gabe Meza of Granite Bay's walk-off base hit in the bottom of the ninth gave the North a 10-9 win over the South in the large school Optimist All-Star baseball game Saturday night at McAuliffe Field near Sacramento State.

Del Campo's Derek Rodigo also homered for the North.

Franklin's Tyler Blake, who had a double, was selected the South MVP in the 42nd annual game featuring some of the area's top graduated seniors.

Behind MVP Ethan Liddle of Lincoln's triple, double, single and five RBIs, the North defeated the South 11-7 in the small school game.

River City's Byron Farrell, with a double and two singles, was selected the South MVP. Vista del Lago's Nick Rametta also had a double and two RBIs for the South.

The games were dedicated to U.S. Army Specialist Ray Ramirez, who was killed in Afghanistan June 1. Ramirez played in the 2010 Optimist Game for Florin.
