Elk Grove's Rowdy Tellez is one of seven Cal-Hi Sports Mr. Baseball State Player of the Year finalists.
Tellez, a first baseman, helped the Thundering Herd win the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I title this season. He hit .500 with nine home runs and 46 RBIs.
His 176 career RBIs is a Sac-Joaquin Section best and second all-time in Northern California to Lowell of San Francisco's Charlie Cutler. He had 203.
Tellez was selected in the 30th round by the Toronto Blue Jays in Saturday's Major League Baseball draft. He has signed a letter of intent with USC.

Michael Strem (St. Francis, Mountain View) Sr., pitcher: 11-1 with a 1.30 ERA, struck out 79 in 80.2 innings.
