The Ready to Pounce 10

Veteran coach Mike Gimenez seeks a 5th league title and has QB Drew Romo and RB Kwane Wilkinson to lead the way. Early games include Oakmont, No. 6 Rocklin, Buhach Colony and CBS.

2. Christian Brothers (6-5)
The Falcons have rising recruits in OL/DL Hayden Jones and LB Logan Snyder. Early gauge game is No. 19 Jesuit in the Holy Bowl in another showdown.

3. Monterey Trail (5-5)
The Mustangs are veer masters and return Elijah McGolthin and Donovan Robinson for veteran coach T.J. Ewing. Play No. 12 Inderkum in a track-meet opener

4. Yuba City (9-2)
The Honkers in 2012 won their first league title since 1987 and want a repeat behind DB Jaylon Deas. Open against equally dangerous Davis.

5. Colfax (4-6)
The Falcons return all 11 offensive starters, including prolific QB Michael Wilson, for longtime coach Tony Martello. Scrimmage Oak Ridge this week.

6. Capital Christian 10-2
The small-school Cougars have two big-time talents in RB/DB Justice Shelton-Moseley and DL Nifae Lealao, a national recruit with strong interest from Stanford. Biggest early game is Bradshaw Christian.

7. Oakmont (4-6)
The Vikings will hurt teams with the efforts of WR Justin Holmes and DE/TE Trey Olsen. Classy coach Tim Moore finds out a lot vs. Whitney early.

8. Sacramento (8-3)
The Dragons will score with QB Titus Barnett and WRs Lonny Powell and Damen Wheeler with an opening-night gauge game against No. 11 Cosumnes Oaks.

9. Nevada Union 5-6
New coach Dennis Houlihan (and former NU star back) takes over for all-time program winner Dave Humphers with tradition and talent still the foundation. Face No. 9 Grant in Week 1 major test.

10. Ponderosa (6-5)
The Bruins made the playoffs in 2007 and 2012 under coach Jason Tenner and return WR Josh Bist. Bruins could get off to a 4-0 start before facing No. 16 Rio Linda then taking on No. 19 Jesuit.
