Yuba City teen to play German in U.S. Open Tennis opener

Yuba City's Collin Altamirano will play Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber in the opening round of the U.S. Open Tennis Championships that start on Monday in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

The time and date for Altamirano's match is still to be determined.

Altamirano, 17, earned a wild card into the Grand Slam event by winning the United States Tennis Association's Boys 18 Nationals title Aug. 11 in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Kohlschreiber, 29, is ranked No. 25 in the world and reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2012. He is seeded No. 22 for the tournament.
