Prep football roundup: Top-ranked Folsom finishes 10-0; Center upsets No. 19 Placer and Whitney tops Antelope for CAL title

Top-ranked Folsom used the same formula it has all season against No. 4 Pleasant Grove in the Delta River League regular-season finale Friday at Sheldon High School.

Unsung but physical defense, some nice collective rushing and, of course, a heavy dose of passing orchestrated by junior quarterback Jake Browning.

It resulted in a 63-39 win as the Bulldogs (10-0, 5-0) captured their second consecutive league title and finished the regular season unbeaten for the second season in a row.

Browning led the way with seven touchdowns, including four to Josiah Deguara.

Browning, who completed 36 of 45 passes for 483 yards, now has 56 touchdowns, seven short of the state record. Browning has a state leading 3,941 yards passing.

Deguara (157 yards), Will McClure (148 yards, and a touchdown) and Troy Knox (127 yards, two touchdowns) each had 10 catches.

Dre Terrell passed 68 yards to Wyatt Demps and 56 yards to Esley Simmons for touchdowns and rushed for a one-yard score for Pleasant Grove (8-2, 3-2). Simmons also had a 79-yard touchdown run and and Damaree Morris added two touchdown runs.

No. 6 Elk Grove 35, Davis 7 at Elk Grove - Spencer Sheff rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown, Manny Scott-Anderson scored rushing and receiving touchdowns and B'won Canada returned a fumble for a touchdown in the rout of the Blue Devils (5-5, 1-4), who were eliminated from playoff consideration in the Delta Valley Conference game. Noah Letuligasenoa had 2.5 sacks for Elk Grove (9-1, 4-1).

No. 7 Rio Linda 49, Del Campo 20 in Fair Oaks - Marcel Brown rushed for a school-record 294 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries; Stephen Andrews passed for 148 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for a touchdown; and Vaughn Hingano had 11 tackles, three for losses, as the Capital Valley Conference champion Knights (9-1, 5-0) topped the Cougars (3-7, 2-3).

No. 9 Grant 62, Laguna Creek 7 in Del Paso Heights - Donovan Brown completed all five of his passes for 185 yards and three touchdowns, and the Pacers (7-3, 4-1) rushed for six scores on Senior Night to rout the Cardinals (1-9, 0-5). Grant, Franklin and Elk Grove each earned a share of the Delta Valley Conference championship. Deandre Whittington-Grays ran for 113 yards on 7 carries and Mike Green rushed for two scores.

No. 12 Inderkum 71, Natomas 0 at Inderkum - Larry Hardy's 55-yard punt return for a touchdown highlighted the Tigers' (8-2, 5-0) win over the rival Nighthawks (0-10, 0-5) in the Tri-County Conference game. It was Inderkum's sixth league title in seven seasons. The Tigers have a 38-2 league record since the TCC was formed in 2006.

No. 13 Yuba City 42, River Valley 0 at River Valley - Isaac Lessard ran 57 yards for a touchdown and threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Alex Inskeep; Austin VanPoole rushed for two touchdowns and Austin Thompson returned a punt 68 yards for a touchdown to lead the Honkers (9-1, 4-1) over the rival Falcons (6-4, 3-2) in the Tri-County Conference game.

No. 14 Franklin 35, Monterey Trail 24 at Monterey Trail - Joey Banks and Kyron O'Berry each rushed for 55-yard touchdowns and Lamar Jackson threw touchdown passes to Jabarri Johnson and Donavon Vernon to lead the Wildcats (7-3, 4-1) over the Mustangs (5-5, 2-3) in the Delta Valley Conference game.

No. 17 Whitney 38, No. 16 Antelope 23 in Antelope - Jordan Traynor scored a 28-yard touchdown run and kicked a 38-yard field as the Wildcats (7-3, 5-0) won the Capital Athletic League title with the win over the Titans (7-3, 4-1). Drew Romo ran in for a score and threw another in the fourth quarter to Jack Brocchini. Mister Harriel scored two rushing touchdowns for Antelope. Over the last four seasons, Whitney and Antelope have alternated league titles.

No. 18 Christian Brothers 45, Bella Vista 44 in Fair Oaks -- Despite sophomore Andreas Litton's 343 all-purpose yards, including 234 rushing and three touchdowns, the Falcons (7-3, 4-1) were able to prevail over the Broncos (2-8, 0-5) in the Capital Valley Conference curtain-closer.

Center 34, No. 19 Placer 19 in Antelope - Tyrel Anderson rushed for a touchdown and threw 15 yards to Elias J'Beily for another score and Joe Swen rushed for two touchdowns to lead the Cougars (7-3, 4-1) for the Hillmen (5-5, 4-1) in the Pioneer Valley League game. Placer and Center finish as league co-champions.

No. 20 Capital Christian 42, Lindhurst 0 at Capital Christian - Justice Shelton-Mosley scored on runs of 21 and 20 yards and caught a 42-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Norville, who also threw a 63-yard touchdown pass to Josh Manansala as the Cougars (9-1, 5-0) defeated the Blazers (1-9, 0-5) in the Golden Empire League game.

Sacramento 55, McClatchy 14 at Hughes Stadium - Caden Voges completed 18 of 27 passes for 347 yards and five touchdowns; Kyree Stephens had six catches for 193 yards and three touchdowns; Jimmy Hatch rushed for 109 yards on nine carries; Melvin Peete returned an interception 36 yards for a score; and Lonny Powell had 12 tackles, including two sacks as the Dragons (8-2, 6-1) beat the Lions (4-6, 4-3) in the Metro Conference game.

Rosemont 54, Hiram Johnson 16 at Rosemont - Daniel Tveretinov returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown and caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Buddy Enriquez and DeShawn Allen rushed 78 yards for a touchdown to lead the Wolverines (8-2, 5-2) over the Warriors (1-9, 0-7) in the Metro Conference game.

Colfax 49, Lincoln 28 in Colfax - Michael Wilson completed 25 of 36 passes for 340 yards and five touchdowns, including a 54-yarder to Kyle Bryant that made him the school's career passing leader; Chas Resinger caught 11 passes for 187 yards and four scores; and Tim Rawlins rushed for two touchdowns as the Falcons (8-2, 3-2) defeated the Fighting Zebras (7-3, 3-2) to ruin Lincoln's chance of finishing in a three-way tie with Placer and Center for the Pioneer Valley League title. Dane Stimbert had an 73-yard touchdown run and Landon Croisant returned a kickoff 68 yards for a touchdown for Lincoln.

Vista del Lago 45, Union Mine 0 at Folsom High School - Matt Jimison threw five touchdown passes, three to Tyler Kaim, as the Eagles (7-3, 4-2) defeated the Diamondbacks (1-9, 1-5) in the Sierra Valley Conference contest.

Woodland 41, Pioneer 14 - Dillon Milton's 80-yard touchdown catch and run highlighted the Wolves' (3-7, 2-3) Tri-County Conference win over the rival Patriots (4-6, 1-4).

Valley Christian 34, Delta 30 in Roseville -- Micah Gunter passed for 340 yards and two touchdowns, both to Cameron Woodside, who had six catches for 205 yards in the Lions' (1-9, 1-7) Sac Metro Conference win over the Saints (2-8, 2-6) to send longtime coach Todd Conroy into retirement on a winning note.

Roseville 38, Woodcreek 35 in Roseville - Kyle Downie passed for 168 yards and two touchdowns and rushed 24 times for 150 yards and two touchdowns in leading the Tigers (5-5, 2-3) over the Timberwolves (3-7, 1-4) in the Sierra Foothill League contest.
