Last year it was thought that Folsom's Jake Browning, then a sophomore, had tied the state single-season touchdown record with 63.
But it was later learned that Robert De La Cruz of Cathedral of Los Angeles had been shorted two touchdown passes during a playoff game in the 1999 season. He had 65.
Browning didn't waste any time Friday night establishing a new state mark in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I quarterfinals at Folsom High School.
In leading top-seeded Folsom to a 49-16 win over Franklin (8-4), Browning threw six touchdown passes and now holds the state record with 68. He broke De La Cruz's record wtih a 5-yard touchdown pass to Josiah Deguara late in the second quarter.
Browning finished 35 of 47 for 332 yards with an interception. Will McClure caught nine passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Deguara finished with 10 catches for 96 yards and two scores.
Folsom (12-0) now moves into Friday's semifinals against Delta River League rival Jesuit, a 49-28 winner over Tracy.
Browning is now No. 4 on the National Federation of High School's record book. Corey Robinson of Lone Oak, Ky., set the national record with 91 in 2007.
With the win, the Bulldogs are now 26-1 the past two seasons and haven't lost at home since 2010.
