Capital Christian falls to Washington team in MaxPreps final

Despite 20 points by senior point guard Tyler Jennings, Capital Christian fell 54-45 tonight to Jackson of Mill Creek, Wash., in the championship final of the Holiday Classic at Rancho Mirage High School near Palm Springs.

Senior point guard Dan Kingma led the Timberwolves with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Portland signee Jason Todd, a 6-foot-5 senior guard, added 11 points.

Michigan signee D.J. Wilson had nine points, seven blocks and five rebounds and Uchenna Iroegbu six points, five rebounds and two blocks for Capital Christian, The Bee's No. 1 team.

Jackson led from start to finish and had a 43-24 lead entering the fourth quarter. A basket by Iroegbu cut the lead to 50-45 late, but Kingma and Todd each hit a pair of free throws for the final margin of victory.

Capital Christian (14-2) had reached the final by upsetting Etiwanda 48-42, ranked No. 5 nationally by USA Today and No. 2 in California by Cal-Hi Sports, and Westchester of Los Angeles 47-43.

Jackson (6-0), which finished second in last season's Class 4A state championships, reached the final by upsetting Long Beach Poly 53-52 on a buzzer beater in overtime.
