Former Foothill star Bryson named Big West Player of Week

UC Santa Barbara sophomore Michael Bryson, a 6-4 guard from Foothill High School, has been named the Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week after recording a season-high 21 points in the Gauchos' 72-61 win at San Diego.

He added four rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal in 33 minutes of action.

Bryson is averaging 12.8 points and four rebounds this season.

Last season as a true freshman he averaged 8.4 points and scored a school freshman record 29 points in the team's Big West Tournament game against eventual-champion Pacific. He made a record-tying seven three-point baskets.

Bryson was a standout at Foothill playing for coach Drew Hibbs.

He averaged 20.3 points per game as a senior and 19.4 per game as a junior.

He helped Foothill to a 29-4 record and Sac-Joaquin Section Division III championship as a senior.
